Which are the best cleaning rags?

Because rags are recycled from discarded clothes, the best cleaning rags are those that have been metal detected to have pins and zips removed so they are safe to use. For absorbency use t-shirt, towel and flannel rags. For low lint jobs where absorbency is less important, use cheaper cotton rags. For example, applying and wiping thinners and solvents, or grease and oils. To highlight dirt or ink, use white rags instead of coloured rags. However white rags are more expensive than the coloured cotton rags.

What types of cleaning rags are there?

There are t-shirt rags, cotton rags, towel rags, flannel rags, fleecy, linen and sheeting rags. Because there are less white rags than coloured rags, the white rags are more expensive. TIDDOX supplies all of these types of rags in 5kg, 10kg and 20 kg bags to automotive workshops, painters, printers, marine, mining and industrial businesses.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between cotton rags and t-shirt rags?

Cotton rags are far less absorbent, but lower linting than t-shirt rags. Cotton rags are cut from recycled business shirts, dresses, whereas t-shirt rags are cut from recycled singlets and t-shirts. Because they’re less absorbent and low linting, cotton rags are more suited to wiping oils and grease, but if you want an absorbing rag, then rather choose t-shirt rags. Cotton rags are cheaper than t-shirt rags.

Which rags are safe to use?

Rags that have not undergone metal detection, may contain harmful objects such as pins, zips and buttons, which can cause injury or scratch surfaces. So always only use rags that have been metal detected.

What are cotton rags?

Cotton rags are recycled from business shirts and dresses. They are a low lint rag, that is ideal for applying and wiping solvents, thinners, grease and oil. Often they are mistaken as absorbent rags and they are not. For absorbency tasks, use t-shirt rags, not cotton rags.

What are terry towel rags?

Rags cut from terry towel clothing, that also includes bath towels, bath robes, bath mats and face cloths. It’s a thick towel rag that is very absorbent and typically considered the best and most expensive of all the rag types.

TIDDOX is a distributor of all types of rag materials, including t-shirt rags, cotton rags, towel rags, flannel and linen rags.

Our bags of rags are environmentally friendly, recycled from unwanted clothing. Collected and sorted into t-shirts, linen, fleece, tracksuits, dresses and cotton shirts.

All of the rags get screened and metal detected to ensure unwanted metals removed. This process removes zips and buttons ensuring that the contents of the bags of rags are safe to use. Thus ensuring that the rags don’t contain objects that may injure or scratch surfaces.

Packaging is available in either 20 kg, 10 kg, 5 kg or 1.5 kg bags.
TIDDOX supplies the needs of all industries, including:-
Printers prefer white t-shirt rags as they are ideal with solvents, and show up ink. They also do not run dye from the tshirt. They are also very absorbent. White cotton rags cut from cotton shirts etc. are lower linting, but not as absorbent.

Painters choose the lower linting white cotton rags. They also do not run dye onto the paint job. These reclaimed textiles absorb solvents and are available in most paint shops. TIDDOX supplies painters nationwide with 1.5 kg bags of white cotton bags of rags.

Garages, mechanics and automotive workshops want absorbency out of bags of rags. They choose the COLOURED T-SHIRT RAGS to absorb grease, oil and fuel spills. These are a good, cost effective general workshop cleaning rag.
Panel beaters and car detailers want lower linting bags of rags. They opt for cotton singlets, which are the best cleaning materials for high volume usage. This material is low linting and ideal for automotive window and glass cleaning.
Manufacturing, engineering and industrial businesses use mixed cotton fleecy. This is a cost effective solution for oil and grease wiping jobs. Also useful for cleaning of tools and hands. These general purpose factory wiping rags suit cleaning machinery and equipment.
For more absorbent jobs, they will use COLOURED T-SHIRT RAGS. A more effective solution for absorbing chemical floor spills and other industrial cleanups.
Mining companies receive bulk bales for high volume usage in mining areas.
Mariners tend to go for the white cotton rags, as these are a lighter, absorbent wiping material.
We search out textile clothing that is SOFT, ABSORBENT, WASHED and RECYCLED (USED). Being SOFT means that the cottons are non-abrasive and will not scratch surfaces. Only selecting used WASHED fabrics ensures that the material is ABSORBENT. New unwashed textiles are not as absorbent as used washed textiles. By RECYCLING textiles we reclaim the clothing from landfills, which is environmentally responsible.
There are a variety of recycled textile materials available, including:-

Recycled coloured singlets which are soft and very absorbent. These are the most popular, economic type of workshop rag. A low linting material with high absorbency characteristics.

White recycled singlets. For tasks needing a colourless rag, such as when using solvents. These cotton blended recycled tshirt materials are very absorbent. Ideal for polishing tasks.

Reclaimed soft cotton fabrics, such as polo shirts and windcheaters. A high volume budget rag, known as FLEECY. These bags of rags contain a mix of medium and light coloured cotton recycled materials.

A light, soft material from sheets, business shirts etc. Low linting. Not as absorbent as tshirts.

A low linting, high quality, soft polishing material.
The rags above come from metal detected soft knit materials of varying absorbency. They are all metal detected and safe to use.
